Sorry, metallifrazz, it is a Hawker Hurricane of 257 Squadron, RAF, lost to enemy action at Walton-on-the-Naze near Harwich. Its aircraft number P3175, side letters DT-S. Check out Wikipedia for a good description of how a Hurricane is constructed (not much wood, I'm afraid).
